Fight or Perish is a free software clone of Gauntlet. It never really progressed past a prototype from the original creator. I've been working to fix it up. I've written an Open Game Source article about my work. https://identicalsoftware.com/games/fop -- Dennis Payne dulsi@identicalsoftware.com https://mastodon.gamedev.place/@dulsi

Man, that brings back memories of playing Gauntlett with my friends after our explorer post meetings at Nathan's in NY. "Elf needs food... badly!" was and is a favorite line from that game.
I read some of your articles as well, first I've ever heard about the Roguelike Challenge, which was exciting because "Crawl" is one of my favorite games of all time, and my kids roll their eyes when they find me playing it in all it's ASCII glory. I play very 0.18 usually, I don't like the change they made to later versions to make the walls dark blue, which I find is really hard to see on screens. Blue is a hard color to do well I find. So I've been slowly playing around with hacking crawl to do new things, but mostly I just play. Badly. But I do want to fix the change where they got rid of the square cursor, and now they just bold tiles which is much more difficult to see. At least to my old old eyes. :-) Thanks for sharing Denis! I'll have to try some of these out at some point. John
