Reminder: Upcoming Meeting Wed Oct 10th
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 HI Everybody, Our next WLUG meeting is approaching soon. On Wednesday, October 10th, 2007, we'll be having our Newbie Night at WLUG. On this occasion, new Linux users are most welcome to attend and ask their questions to the more experienced Linux users in a non-intimidating environment. Experienced folks are also welcome to attend to help out the new users. Try to remember what it was like when you were a new user and tailor your answers accordingly! The new folks will be very appreciative. Also, if some people would be willing to burn a few CDs or DVDs with their favorite Linux distribution or Live CD, then the new users will have choices that they can take home and try at their leisure. My personal recommendations would be Knoppix, (K)ubuntu, OpenSuse, Damn Small Linux, and some RedHat derivative (Fedora, CentOS, etc). Feel free to share whatever your favorite may be. I also think that a few laptops running these different distros would be great demo tools for the new users. One last note: unfortunately, I will not be present for this meeting. I will be in Austin, TX on business. I've asked Chuck and Frank if they would run the meeting. Just because I can't make it, you should all still get together and enjoy the meeting. This is your chance to make fun of me in my absence (as opposed to doing so in my presence!). :-) I will have access to email during my trip. Have fun, and remember, we were all new...once upon a time. Hi Andy! I guess no one told you about the "other" WLUG mailing list... ;-) Steve -- Stephen C. Daukas Engineer, Geoscientist, Environmental Analyst ________________________________________________ - Please, before printing, think about the environment -

Hi Everybody, I am wondering about this meeting since I was unable to attend. How well was it attended? What topics were covered? Did you eat plenty of pizza afterwards? Inquiring mind wants to know! :-) My business trip to Austin, TX was successful IMHO. I met a couple of people who I had not seen in some time, and I met in person a few people with whom I have been working only via telephone and email. It was nice to be able to put a face to those communications. Also, I enjoyed various carnivorous delights like steak and Texas style BBQ. Finally, I did see the "famous" bats on the Congress St. bridge - millions of them fly out each night to feast on mosquitoes and such. Andy, The meeting went great. We had one new person show up and we showed off Fedora Core and (I think) Ubuntu. We also started an install on a laptop (but that was a bit rocky). Seven of us then ended up at the Goat's Head for Pizza. I do have to say, that place is MUCH nicer than usual place we have pizza. My vote is that we go back their next meeting!
