This is weird... I can't get "less" to display line numbers in the left column. All that happens is that the text of the file I'm viewing shifts to the right, adding 2 blank columns. It looks like the shift amount is too small to display the numbers, so I don't get to see them. I'm seeing this on both RedHat 7.1 and 7.2 systems. On an older system (6.0?), less shows the line numbers. (I could have sworn that this was working right recently, but it doesn't now.) I'm using the "--LINE-NUMBERS" option to try to see the lines on the newer versions, and the "-N" option on the older versions. Any ideas? TIA, Bill

I happen to have 7.1 and 6.1 systems lying around. I see the same result. 6.1 does display the numbers while 7.1 just adds a few blank spaces to the beginning of the line. Don't know how to fix it but I'd thought I'd let you know that it is restricted to your machines. Dennis Payne dulsi@identicalsoftware.com
