changed them to 666 so I could use the player, but, like the symlink (above), this change does not survive the reboot. Again, what's the right solution?
As root try changing the permissions to 755,which would give you read-execute permission (owner has write permission also).You've got them set as read-write for owner,group and other.After all, I doubt that you can write to a read only device.
