happy to try!
A. Can anybody lend me a boot repair flash drive or CD and/or one with Ubuntu 20 or later.
Do you have any other computers? And a USB flash drive which is empty? Then you could just download the basic Ubuntu ISO and put it on the flash drive and boot from there.
B. Provide me some advice how to proceed. Can boot older version (16) of Ubuntu but not ver. 20.
So you're dual booting? If you can boot Ubuntu 16, then you should be able to download the install ISO for 20 and copy that using 'dd' to the thumb drive. Or download an install 'ventoy' onto a thumbdrive, so you can have multiple different ISOs on one thumb drive and boot from which ever one you want.
Error msg: ... not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown block(0,0) I will greatly appreciate any help.
This sounds like your Ubuntu 20.x install went south. Was this a new install or your current system? Did you apply any updates before this problem came up? So I think what you want to do is boot an Ubunto 20.04 or 20.10 ISO, and then go into 'rescue' mode or shell mode. I honestly forget. But the idea is to then get into your setup, chroot to your old non-booting setup and re-run the 'update-grub' or 'update-initramfs' tools to rebuild your setup. But we do need more details. Would it be possible for you to bring the computer to a WLUG meeting? People would be able to help you there more quickly than over email. I might or might not be there tonight, and I'm busy all weekend with other stuff.
