I recently installed Suse Linux on my Pentium III, 600 mHz computer that had Windows XP installed previously. Linux seems to work OK, except that I can't access my cable modem or dial-up modem from it. If I want to go to the internet, I have to go via windows. I got this machine from my son-in-law, and it has never printed in either windows or Linux. I have "properly" installed my deskjet 932 printer, it looks to be installed ok, but when I try to print, the printer never gets the data that the computer supposedly sends to it. Any help I can get from you folks would be greatly appreciated. Hi Phil, Let's break this into two threads so people will have a chance to address each topic without confusion. Secondly, if you could provide more information regarding what you did, what you expected to happen, and what actually happened (error messages and such are really helpful), then I'm sure somebody on this list can help get you up and running smartly. Well, it's a little bit easy to indicate what your modem is ? If your modem is a kind of internal model, it must be a win modem. A win modem is a kind of modem that the mechanism is provided by windows application, it's not workin on linux machine. If you got an internal modem with the branded one such as USR Robotics, it is not win modem, it can work on linux platform. Basically, if you found a warning on your modem that your modem need minimum requeirment processor, it means you got a win modem, can not work with Linux. Okay, hope that can clear your problem. ---------------------------------------------------------- Aramico ----- Original Message ----- From: "Andy Stewart" <andystewart@attbi.com> To: <wlug@mail.wlug.org> Sent: Tuesday, January 07, 2003 10:22 AM Subject: Re: [Wlug] Suse Linux: Internet access that I

Not necessarily true.

There are a few WinModems that *do* work under Linux, but generally speaking, they do not. My laptop has a Conexant chip in it, which does have a Linux driver available. See: http://www.mbsi.ca/cnxtlindrv/ I have not tried to use this software, so I can't say first hand that it works. No, it's a "software" modem, it's just that certain software modemns have had their specs open and others have had binary-only drivers released for them... Wes On Tuesday 07 January 2003 1:55 am, Aramico wrote:
