The first place I would look is whether or not I could access the BIOS configuration. If the BIOS does not respond to the USB keyboard, I would nor expect something as low level as GRUB to access the keyboard. I have not loked at the source of GRUB, but something as small as grub would have to use a standardized interface. In my mind, that leaves ISA hardware standards or standard BIOS calls. I've never had problems with grub accessing a usb keyboard, as long as the 'enable usb legacy devices' or similar was active in the bios. As has been mentioned, I don't think you will need the mouse. BestBuy will accept up to 3 e;lectronics items/small appliances per day from consumers, at no charge. Except for tv's and monitors, for which you must pay $10, but receive a $10. BestBuy card in return. Also, no refrigerators or air conditioners or tv's over 37" (?). Anyhow, they have rules, but it is convenient if you can't get an appointment at Balard Street with the city.
