Job Opening: Full-time MySQL/PostreSQL Database Administator Position

Monitor database performance and capacity, tune system for performance and administer user access, security and back up. Two years DBA experience required and Apache, Solaris, Linux experience preferred. Required Competencies: * Strong analytical, teamwork, and problem solving skills * Technical expertise in Sun Solaris UNIX, Linux, MySQL, Postgres. Oracle experience not necessary, but considered a plus. * Design of database schemas, including setting up triggers and constraints to ensure integrity, indexing and tuning. * Knowledge in myisam and innodb file structures recommended * Basic understanding of scripting languages Reports To: Director of IT Operations, Product Systems Required Experience: Must have prior responsibility for administration of MySQL, Postgres RDBMS and knowledge of installing, upgrading and optimizing databases within a sophisticated multi-tier computer network. Oracle experience a plus. Initial Mandate: - Conduct database audit, present findings and make recommendations. * Security, passwords, user accounts, auditing * Document and maintain database configuration information * Develop and implement plans for database maintenance and upgrades. * Perform detailed database configurations. * Install, configure and maintain system tools and utilities. * Perform system diagnostics and create resolutions. * Monitor and tune systems for optimal performance. * Document database schema - Plan and install on New Production Servers, sized and tuned for optimal throughput and reliability. * Develop database, objects (tablespaces, tables, indexes, views) * Build and maintain users accounts and database roles * Evaluate disk spacing and resize/add datafiles - Ensure service performance through established metrics and audits. * Implement database and recovery strategies * Serve as liaison with database vendors; report problems and obtain technical solutions * Tune database and handle day-to-day DBA activities
