Hey all, I've learned that the library in my town is open to the public for hosting club meetings! More info: https://hudsonpubliclibrary.com/ Some of the benefits I can think of for having meetings at the library include: - Free hosting - Free public wifi - Free on-site parking - Low noise levels - Projector and whiteboard are available - Books, music, movies, etc, are available for checking out (https://bark.cwmars.org/eg/opac/home) - Adjacent to many restaurants, most having outdoor seating - Has EV charging stations nearby - Access to well-maintained walking trails and public parks Cons: - Conference room capacity is capped at 10 occupants - Meetings must end 15 minutes before library's closing time, so would have to end at 8:15PM - Many restaurants might be closed by 9PM I could imagine going back to our usual monthly meetings, from 7:00PM to 8:15PM on Thursdays, then walking over to one of the restaurants next door for food and drinks. I can personally vouch for these local establishments, all reachable within a 5 minute walk: https://railtrailflatbread.com/ https://www.wellysrestaurant.com/ https://newcitymicrocreamery.com/ https://www.lessthangreaterthan.com/ https://www.kithandkinhudson.com/ https://www.horseshoepub.com/ https://freshwingma.com/ https://www.medusabrewing.com/beer-garden What do you think? - Josh
I think it's a great idea! Speaking with the Technopia folks, they're interested in having us, but it sounds like it would happen in the Sept. time frame, I'd like to have a couple in person meetings before that. Is this something people would be interested in doing tomorrow? Thanks, Tim. On Tue, Jul 13, 2021 at 9:25 PM joshua.gage.stone--- via WLUG < wlug@lists.wlug.org> wrote:

Hey Richard, Here are the full directions: 3 Washington St Hudson, MA 01749 Next to the library is the Hudson Fire Department, and in between them is the entrance to a municipal parking lot which is free to use. The Hudson Location involves more driving for me. My guess is if we have more meetings there, I would likely attend just a few from time to time. I do not plan to be there tonight. That being said and not having been there, free parking and food nearby sound like definite pluses. I'm anxious to hear how the meeting goes. I can't make it this month, but it sounds like a great plan going forward. On Thu, Jul 15, 2021, 11:11 AM Tim Keller via WLUG <wlug@lists.wlug.org> wrote:
Ron,
We have lots of options for meeting locations. We could even shuffle things around a bit.
As an aside, please email the list if you intend to attend so we can get a number.
Thanks, Tim.

The Hudson Location involves more driving for me. My guess is if we have more meetings there, I would likely attend just a few from time to time. I do not plan to be there tonight. That being said and not having been there, free parking and food nearby sound like definite pluses. I'm anxious to hear how the meeting goes.

I think it's a great idea!
Speaking with the Technopia folks, they're interested in having us, but it sounds like it would happen in the Sept. time frame, I'd like to have a couple in person meetings before that.
Is this something people would be interested in doing tomorrow?
Thanks, Tim.

Hey all,
I've learned that the library in my town is open to the public for hosting club meetings! More info:
https://hudsonpubliclibrary.com/
Some of the benefits I can think of for having meetings at the library include:
- Free hosting - Free public wifi - Free on-site parking - Low noise levels - Projector and whiteboard are available - Books, music, movies, etc, are available for checking out (https://bark.cwmars.org/eg/opac/home) - Adjacent to many restaurants, most having outdoor seating - Has EV charging stations nearby - Access to well-maintained walking trails and public parks
Cons:
- Conference room capacity is capped at 10 occupants - Meetings must end 15 minutes before library's closing time, so would have to end at 8:15PM - Many restaurants might be closed by 9PM
I could imagine going back to our usual monthly meetings, from 7:00PM to 8:15PM on Thursdays, then walking over to one of the restaurants next door for food and drinks. I can personally vouch for these local establishments, all reachable within a 5 minute walk:

I won't make July or August meetings due to being out of the Worcester area. I like the Hudson Library idea. Also like the idea of possibly it moving around to different locations idea. I can see WLUG meeting at different libraries, coffee houses or brew pubs around central MA. A bit like the 70's Kung Fu TV series. Roaming the area with only our highly tuned Linux skills and spiritual training as a Shaolin Monk... Lol Joel On July 15, 2021 11:35:14 AM Frank Sweetser via WLUG <wlug@lists.wlug.org> wrote:

Yeah, I wasn't sure how much of a commute driving to Hudson would be. I figured since it was a 20-25 minute drive from WPI that it'd be in the general vicinity for people who're probably commuting in central MA. I figured it'd be worth trying at least once since we've been discussing transitioning back to in-person meetings for some time, and it was something I was able to set up with ease since the library is down the street from my home. - Josh On Thu, 2021-07-15 at 13:38 +0000, THE HAMMER via WLUG wrote:
