I've just upgraded to 8.0, and I find that linuxconf is no longer distributed. I was growing fairly fond of it, and I'm wondering what is the latest and greatest system management tool. I've seen "setup", and it's a bit lacking. I like linuxconf because: 1. It doesn't require the detailed (geek-level) knowledge that editing config files requires. 2. It works without a gui, which is very convenient for su-ing to root, or working through slower connections. So, what's the "best" system management tool these days? TIA, Bill

YaST2...try it sometime! :-) Its available with 8.0 and 8.1. -- Andy Stewart, Founder Worcester Linux Users' Group Worcester, MA USA http://www.wlug.org
YaST2...try it sometime! :-)
Its available with 8.0 and 8.1.
I assumed he meant for RedHat, and I wasn't aware that YaST is portable. But if we're just throwing out suggestions for configuration tools, Mandrake's Control Center was re-worked yet again for 9.0 is and very good. -b

I knew that...I just wanted to see who was paying attention. :-) I saw the "8.0" without a distro name and thought I'd have a little fun, that's all. The "8.1" reference was a clue... :-) -- Andy Stewart, Founder Worcester Linux Users' Group Worcester, MA USA http://www.wlug.org

Bill was lamenting the demise of linuxconf from Red Hat... i've played with YaST (before v2, i think) a few years ago, and i thought it was great! my personal favorite in RH was control-panel, which went to /dev/null a few versions back, i think. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- William Smith wsmith-at-chezsmith-dot-com Fall River, MA http://www.chezsmith.com "There are two things that are infinite; Human stupidity and the universe.
