I went to see him Last night in Burlington. It was very interesting. I would recommend anyone who follows the hacker culture to go. The "lost chapter" of his book that was removed prior to publishing is at: http://wired.com/news/culture/0,1284,56187,00.html Mitnick links: http://www.albany.net/~dsissman/mitnick.html or just go to google and search Kevin Mitnick. I'm more interested in the November 20th speaker who's the author of the best Unix book ever. (Now in it's 3rd edition.) http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/esa3/ On Thu, 7 Nov 2002 10:04:05 -0500 (EST) Michelle Vadeboncoeur <mrv@kluge.net> wrote:

I haven't seen the new edition but I have the 2nd, and while it's a certainly good book I think that the purple book is more comprehensive. Hell, it has four authors! -- Gary

I once went to the library at the company I worked for and asked for help finding a book. I told the librarian the color of the book and even stated the main theorem of chapter two. Since she was paid to be friendly and helpful to the engineers, she did not tell me to bugger off, but I did not like the look she gave me. To avoid a repeat of that experience, maybe you could divulge the title?

Or a few authors? -- Keith

Sorry, it sticks out like a sore thumb in any section of UNIX books so I assumed it was widely known. (There's also a Linux-only version from the same people, but I'll bet its just a reprint of all the Linux stuff from the purple book.) Go to Amazon.com and search for "UNIX System Administration Handbook". -- Gary
