SMTP 25 license plate
About a week ago while commuting I was trapped in gridlock behind another vehicle with the license plate "SMTP 25." I think in the past I have seen also a license plate "RTFM" but that was a long time ago. It seemed to me at the time that the owner of the SMTP-vehicle would probably be on this mailing list. --MCV.
Used to work at a company where the programs had names with 3 letters followed by four numbers. I would see a plate and remember the similarly named program and what it was used for On Tue, Dec 19, 2023 at 5:16 AM Michael Voorhis via WLUG < wlug@lists.wlug.org> wrote:

I'd ordered "UDP" on a plate from the RMV but I never got it. I tried to complain but I don't think they care that I didn't get it. On Tue, Dec 19, 2023 at 5:17 AM Michael Voorhis via WLUG < wlug@lists.wlug.org> wrote:

It took me two tries to order just a replacement plate from the RMV, and it wasn't until I kept failing inspectiong that I pushed it through. I think the RMV had a major system change about 18 months ago and it really screwed with things for a while. Try it again and let us know how it goes! Maybe I'd get 'TCP'

Nice! I keep thinking of getting a new plate with something snarky and fun and geeky... but coming up with something is hard. I had a co-worker from NH with the placs 'asics' at one time.

The RFC pseudo standards come to mind. I have seen /dev/null plates for more than one state. Might they look askance at you if you requested "Trixie" ? How much does a Massachusetts vanity plate cost, anyway? Back in VT they used to be free, and everyone had 'em. It was cool to see cars with the initials of friends & family. I think they ended the policy though. --MCV.

I think they're $50, plus $20 to swap registrations. Six letters max, leading with two letters, no mixing of numbers between letters. Which is kinda wierd. And they make you ask for your three choices and give you just one of them. It's kinda strange. https://www.mass.gov/how-to/request-a-vanity-license-plate And the rules they have on "offensive" words seems ripe for a lawsuit. 1st amendment and all.
