I'm not sure what I am talking about. I know that the terminal for my SUN ULTRA1 is different than the terminal for my DELL PC. I have purchased a IOGEAR KVM switch. I would like to include the SUN machine in the set of computers that can share my one keyboard, mouse and terminal. What do I order which will make this possible? Ken Jones of Fitchburg.
We have all Suns at RIT. I will ask our sysadmin and get back to you. On May 12, 2009, at 10:29, "Ken Jones" <kjones@ziplink.net> wrote:

If you search www.monoprice.com (or Google Shopping, I suppose) for "sun vga", they have a selection of adapters. I've used the shorter style in the past successfully, but not specifically with a KVM. Brian Conway
It seems you need a "13W3-to-VGA" adapter. On Tue, May 12, 2009 at 10:53 AM, Brian Conway <bconway@alum.wpi.edu> wrote:

Sure, you probably have a 13W3 video connector on your Ultra1, so you'd need a dongle to goto VGA. I problaby have one lying around here at work and I can give it to you. The bigger problem is the mouse/keyboard, since the U1 uses a totally different and non-standard setup. The old Sun Type 4 & 5 keyboards. Some KVM switches supported the older sun standard. Newer suns all use USB mice/keyboards with minor extensions and are perfectly compatible with KVMs. In this case, you might be out of luck. Exactly which model KVM did you buy? John
On the older Sun systems, they were "clever" by combining Serial A and Serial B into the same 25-pin connector. These systems used to have an adapter that would either split the port into two or a DB25-to-RJ45 connector made to use only one. If you need the DB25-to-RJ45 for Serial A pinout, it should be out there... Bill Smith Fall River, MA Charter Member of LOPSA On Tue, May 12, 2009 at 10:29 AM, Ken Jones <kjones@ziplink.net> wrote:

Sun had gone away from this by the time of the Ultra1 as I recall. It was a stupid optimization from the realization that most DB-25 serial ports only used 8 signal lines max, so it was simple to just add another driver chip on un-used lines. Then someone smarter said "let's just use a DB-9 instead" and the problem was solved. Alot of middle old Suns have one DB25 and one DB9 serial port. But these are all around 10 years old.
