Where can I get detail documentation about Sendmail and Qmail ? I mean, the documentations on their site both are meaningless for me. Well, it's all just about the the pop3, smtp, virtualhost, etc. Thanks!

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.
Bummer.

The detail about |sendmail| is in the 1021 page book called "sendmail" by Bryan Costales, published by O'Reilly. I got my copy from the Tatnuck bookstore on Chandler Street, I don't know if they are still in stock. The Border's on Rt.9 in Shrewsbury is also a good place to look.

I can't guarantee that book won't also be meaningless for you.

Yeah, that's how mail gets sent and received. What are you trying to do? -- Keith

Okay, flame war time, but this is really starting to bug me. What's everyone's freekin problem with MIME formatted messages? The poster's message is NOT in HTML format (referring to a previous post on the matter). It's in multipart/alternative. That means your mailer is free to choose what alternative encoding to display. I have mutt configured to show me text/html version (piped thru lynx, of course), but I could just as easily have it show me the text/plain one instead. The way I see it, giving the reader the option of what version to display is the best compromise, as compared to either A) not offering multimedia in email at all, or B) berating the sender of a message for not using a format you agree with. Using a retarded mailer that doesn't know to interpret multipart/alternative is no excuse. And jumping right to option B is just childish. -Chuck

Sorry, everyone-- my mistake... I just realized it wasn't everyone at all. It was Keith every time the subject was mentioned. ;) Keith, what mailer are you using? Maybe the folks on this list can help you configure it correctly. -Chuck

On a related note, if you're interested in trimming out the alternate HTML part, take a look at http://www.kluge.net/mailfiltering/strip_html.txt ... It works very nicely for me ala: # If a message is MIME and under 100k, remove the HTML version if neccesary. :0 fw * ^Content-type:.*boundary * <102400 |/usr/local/bin/strip_html.pl Then I never worry about the multipart/alternate bits since I only ever see text/plain, not to mention that the mail is much much smaller this way. ;) -- Randomly Generated Tagline: "Problem solving under linux has never been the circus that it is under AIX." If you want to use qmail, I've always found "Life With Qmail" to be particulary handy. http://www.lifewithqmail.org/lwq.html -JP
