Might someone out there have another solution? Is there something else I can do to solve this problem without having to leave read, write and execute privileges on the directory to such a broad class of users?

On the server, what are the user:groups assigned? Do you have the same user/group created on each server/workstation with the same UID and GID? Just a couple of things to think about.
