Redhat has RPMS for apache, php, and ssl that all play nice together. Use those unless you have some weird requirement where you absolutly need to build your own. BUT, make sure to download the updated SSL libraries from RedHat! The ones on the CD have a remote exploit in them that you will want to close. If you do NEED to compile your own apache, ssl, etc ... then there is this nifty project called "The apache toolbox" http://www.apachetoolbox.com/ which makes the process much much easier. Since it can be difficult getting all those to work right, I'd suggest trying that. I'd un-install all of the current apache stuff you have before doing that.
