Testing WLUG e-mail list
...I'm trying to figure out why I got 14 copies (literally!) of Steve Daukas' posting, as well as a couple of others. Andy -- Andy Stewart, Founder Worcester Linux Users' Group Worcester, MA USA http://www.wlug.org
Andy, I've been getting these emails, as well as anything sent to my @alum.wpi.edu forwarding address multiple times. Looking at and comparing the message headers, it would appear that mcafee.wpi.edu might be the culprit as it's the point in the chain of mail relays where timestamps start changing. Maybe it's in a forwarding loop or it's mail queue is hosed somehow so that it thinks messages haven't been delivered yet, so it retries. *shrug* Glad to know that I'm not the only one seeing this problem, it's been happening since Friday and is driving me batty. Anyone else at WPI have an idea what might be going on or is experiencing this issue? I haven't actually seen duplicate messages, very likely due to this useful procmail rule: :0 Wh: msgid.lock | formail -D 16384 $HOME/.msgid.cache It stops the same message (based on message id) from being received multiple times, which is very useful if people (for instance) respond to both you and a list you read, you'll only get the mail once. -- Randomly Generated Tagline: "Where are all the great pot head writers? I too have been driven to the brink of sanity by this for the past couple days. Rock on. ;-) Brian J. Conway bconway@alum.wpi.edu "LINUX is obsolete" - Andrew S. Tanenbaum, creator of Minix - Jan 29, 1992
HI everybody, I've just sent e-mail to Chuck and Frank to see if they can help remedy the "echo" situation. Thank you for your patience, and my apologies (in advance) if you get 14 copies of this. :-) Later, Andy -- Andy Stewart, Founder Worcester Linux Users' Group Worcester, MA USA http://www.wlug.org
