OK here we go - I'm a Linux newbie &'ve used Mandrake in the past occasionally but that's about it. I've installed Fedora 1 on an old computer at work but it has an MN-130 network card & the system isn't recognizing that it's there. According to a couple articles I've checked I need to edit the Tulip driver (tulip_core.c) & add a line of code at line 201. I did this and then checked the dependencies & typed modules_install & restarted the system & STILL the network card didn't show up. What am I doing wrong? Does anyone have any advice to get me out of this frustration? I'm very close to swapping out the card for another one that's more likely to work but I'd like to avoid that if possible ... Can anybody help? -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Version: 7.0.308 / Virus Database: 266.9.15 - Release Date: 4/16/2005
I would imagine that a newer release of Linux might have it. I don't even remember if Fedora 1 was in the 2.6 kernel stream... -Jared On 4/21/05, Jerome Walczak <vze4jtbs@verizon.net> wrote:

I believe you can grab a newer kernel although it would prob be an FC3 (Fedora Core 3) kernel. I personally haven't used Fedora much so I'm not sure. Have you tried googling that name? I've never even heard of that nic.
From the quick google search I did it sounds like it's a Microsoft card. Did see a few topics about linux drivers, but all dead ends at a short glance.

It would really have to depend on the chipset that is on the card. Can you run lspci? On 4/22/05, Eric Martin <freak4uxxx@gmail.com> wrote:

Uses the prism 2 chipset, or maybe just prism, but either way its a standard (to myknowledge) chipset found on linksys cards. So under normal circumstances you should be able to use the tulip module to get this to work. But of course microsoft had to go in and put in their 2 cents and screw it up for everyone. Apparently the I/O address built onto the card was changed so you have to rewrite the tulip module manually in order to get it to work. To begin insert the following line at line 201 (its a function I beleive) of the tulip module source code (tulip_core.c) " {0x1414, 0x0002, PCI_ANY_ID, PCI_ANY_ID, 0, 0, COMET}, " save and do the following commands. cd /usr/src/linux**** #(**** = kernel number) make dep make modules make modules_install do a restart and everything should be ok right now I'm using mine in slackware so I know it works. --- I got this from linuxquestions.org ... I tried doing this but no go, the network card is still MIA - I tried downloading & burning the SRPMS images for Fedora 3 but I can't boot from them - I'm going to download the other images listed on the site & try them - does anybody know why I couldn't boot from the SRPMS images? -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Not just yet. I'm in the process of downloading & burning some cd's which (hopefully) will allow me to upgrade the current installation - I'm going to try to go from FC 1 to FC 3 - the cd's I burnt before didn't boot & didn't work ... If the new version doesn't work or I can't get it to install right I'll swap out the MN card for another one I have spare ... Can anyone give me a quick explanation of why the SRPMS cd's didn't boot? I haven't tried any other distros yet with this system but I'm thinking it may be a good idea. -----Original Message----- From: wlug-bounces@mail.wlug.org [mailto:wlug-bounces@mail.wlug.org] On Behalf Of Jared Greenwald Sent: Friday, April 22, 2005 9:36 PM To: Worcester Linux Users Group Subject: Re: [Wlug] FW: MN-130? SRPMS are source code. You don't need them unless you are going to develop Fedora. You need the 4 i386 .iso files, or you can get just the boot.iso and do a HTTP or FTP install off the internet.
