Softpro to close Marlboro, MA store...
From Softpro - FYI:
------------------------------------------------------------------------ Marlborough Softpro to Close - Last Day is March 20. Softpro Books Waltham will Serve as Single Location ------------------------------------------------------------------------ It is with great sadness that we've decided to consolidate our operations into our one Waltham store. The economy has taken its toll on our Marlborough location which we opened with great optimism over 4 years ago. Our last day will be Sat., March 20. Between now and then, we're selling all of our Marlboro inventory at 25% off (sorry, no special orders). Gift certificates will continue to be honored at our Waltham store. We apologize for any inconvenience to our Marlborough area customers and hope that you will visit us in our Waltham store, conveniently located on Route 128/95 at the Totten Pond Road exit. For directions, please visit our web site (www.softpro.com/info.html) or call us at 781-487-2220. -- Andy Stewart, Founder Worcester Linux Users' Group Worcester, MA USA http://www.wlug.org

Hey... What happened to the Burlington store? Everytime I drive to Billerica to visit ye ol' employer's co-lo facility I feel I should stop off. :( -- Randomly Generated Tagline: `When you say "I wrote a program that crashed Windows", people just stare at you blankly and say "Hey, I got those with the system, *for free*".' A few months (or more?) ago, the Burlington store closed and they moved it to Waltham. I had visited the Burlington and Marlboro stores several times, but I have yet to make it to Waltham. Andy -- Andy Stewart, Founder Worcester Linux Users' Group Worcester, MA USA http://www.wlug.org

It was some point last fall. I think the Burlington location could not easily compete with B&N a quarter mile down the street and carrying a lot of simliar/same titles for less. If B&N doesn't have a title, usually I'll go online unless I'm in a real hurry for the book, in which case I think I went to Softpro once.... cover price gets old. -mike

Don't WLUG members get 10% off? I seem to remember going there and having to decide over the WBUR, WGBH, and iirc, WLUG discounts. There's just something about walking into a store and seeing every ORA book right there. ;) -- Randomly Generated Tagline: Flanders! My socks feel dirty! Yes, there is a discount on many items for WLUG members. I'm not sure of the percentage, but I think its 10%.

http://www.bookpool.com - all the ORA books, always 25% to 45% off -All the time. Sofpro was nice to have around for emergencies but if you can wait 3-4 days for a book, I always go to bookpool. Cheaper and wider selection. (darned hard to read a few pages before buying tho'... :) ) They are located in vineyard haven. IIRC -- Jeff Kinz, Open-PC, Emergent Research, Hudson, MA. Ugh. And I just visited it for the first time a month or so ago. I was amazed to find such a great selection 5 minutes away from my house.
Bummer. ..was in that store last week and the clerk there was so bored he was half way through a book of "Jumbles." I wondered how many unemployed techno-dweebs would jump at the chance to be paid to read ORA books all day (albeit minimum wage). If only.
