FW: [Wlug] A bit off topic - phpnuke et al.
OOPS, hit ctrl-enter by mistake. Continued below...
I'm anxious to hear anyone's feedback on this issue because I would like to break out of the nuke mold because every nuke site pretty much looks and feels the same.
I'm going to look into migrating to Zope. This site lists a bunch of CMS's, see the listings under Open Source: http://www.cmswatch.com/ContentManagement/Products/ I like what I saw so far on Zope, and there have been recent articles about it in Linux Journal (or Magazine...). Example sites here: http://www.zope.org/Resources/ZopePowered BR
FWIW, I am currently using zope to develop a website and like it very much. --mike On Sat, 2003-04-26 at 12:21, Brett Russ wrote:

I've spent some time looking over the links and google... Zope looks like it could be the ticket, but I have to do more digging. The reviews from this winter basically say that it is a fair bit of work to get going. For example, if you want to use Apache, you have to do some specific integration becuause Zope comes with its own http server... Then there is the issue of having to learn yet another GD little language - pyhton. Not that I have anything against it, but it is yet another langauge to learn and what I wanted was to not have to do that. Now, this is all based on two days of surfing, so I may be all wet... Maybe there is enough Zope folk out there to represent an opportunity to get a quasi sub group of WLUG? By the way - know anything about midgard, a LAMP-based system? Zope does have a fairly steep learning curve. The biggest advantage it has is python. Since zope is written in python you can create "products" fairly quickly using existing building blocks. These building blocks handle most of the security for you. Now that I crossed over the hump of the learning curve I can implement a new object in less than a day. This includes all the programing to fully integrate it into my "product" and creation of the presentation layer to add, modify and delete the object. There is a Boston Zope Users Group (bzug), but it has been very quite lately. I have also spent a week at zope hq for training. You may contact me directly if you would like to discuss this further. hth, mike On Sun, 2003-04-27 at 20:38, Stephen C. Daukas wrote:
