Hi all, This is the first I have heard of this organization. I read their webpage and it looks interesting. They are located not far from where I used to live in Worcester. I'm considering contacting them. Andy -- Andy Stewart, Founder Worcester Linux Users' Group Worcester, MA USA http://www.wlug.org

Andy, you don't need to take classes from them... We can help you with the switch to Debian! ;-)

Ouch! Good one! :-) Actually, I was wondering if there might be some synergy between the two organizations. Later, Andy -- Andy Stewart, Founder Worcester Linux Users' Group Worcester, MA USA http://www.wlug.org

<donning asbestos skivvies> Hm. This sounds like some sort of distro-war a-brewin'... ;) (besides... Debian may be stable, but it's outdated...) <doffing asbestos skivvies before the rash starts>

if there IS some sort of synergy, perhaps they could be tapped to speak to WLUG about how older systems can be recycled? I've got a move coming up in a few months, and my wife is pestering me to "get rid of" some of my old equipment... <sigh> I should make another list... -- William Smith wsmith@chezsmith.com Fall River, MA
One of their people had contacted the WPI Student ACM Chapter asking for help, but I'm not sure if anything ever came of that. I think a couple of them even showed up to the Linux Installfest the ACM had back in early April, so there's definitely activity going on with that group. Doing something jointly definitely sounds like it could be mutually benefitial. just my 2 pence -frank p

HI all, I just fired off an email to one of their contacts. I introduced WLUG, invited them to a future meeting, and asked if they had any ideas on how our groups might help each other. I'll let you know if/when I get a response. Andy -- Andy Stewart, Founder Worcester Linux Users' Group Worcester, MA USA http://www.wlug.org
Hello, I'm working on installing Gforge(.org) on a server running Debian. I'm using "apt-get install gforge" using the packages on gforge.free.fr. I cannot get Postgresql to start. I tested it on my local machine and never ran into this problem. Any ideas would be great. (ok.. maybe I should try the Worcester Coop course! <G>) I get this message when I try to start it as root "bash: /etc/init.d/postgresql: Permission denied" the pg_hba.conf: local all all trust host all all 127.0.0.1 255.255.255.255 trust Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Rob Mahlert http://www.atari-users.net http://www.atariforge.net

It also may have permissions set to require it to be run by the "postgres" user. Jeff Moyer wrote:

Thanks for the replies guys, I had changed the file to '777' but it was still giving the permission denied. I'll check the postgres user. Rob Mahlert

I'll check the postgres user. 777?! dude, fix that! Anyway, if you still have issues as postgres user, you could try doing sh -x /etc/init.d/postgres start and figure out exactly where it's bombing. -Jeff
