Re: Wlug Digest, Vol 4, Issue 6
I have two machines using Gentoo that also have distcc servers running on them. I also have a couple other friends that also use gentoo and would like to use a larger distcc network. Let's talk off the mailing list; I'm not particularly fond of posting my IP addresses on a public mailing list :-) Ryan Caron rcaron@wpi.edu On Mon, 9 Feb 2004 wlug-request@mail.wlug.org wrote:

Hello, all. My name's Carlton and I figured this is probally the best place to post this note. My friends and I have recently got distcc working (a distributed compiler using gcc-3.3.2). We've currently got 7 (maybe 8?) computers running the distcc daemon right now. Basically, when any one of us compiles something the processess are distributed amongst the computers on the network running distcc. So, my question is, is anyone interested in joining our little group? I figure the more linboxes the merrier. We are also in the process of setting up a couple of G5's with cross compiling on distcc so any Mac guys out there are welcome to (but Linux/BSD guys are most welcome ^_^). Feel free to reply, sageman@wpi.edu, if you are interested. We are also looking at getting some other stuff distributed if at all possible but really haven't started looking anywhere yet. If anyone else some ideas of possible distributed software we can run, that information would also be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Oh, and yes, the distcc webpage is here: http://distcc.samba.org/.

and you can do cross compiling with distcc pretty easily in gentoo ... just `emerge crossdev` and you can easily build cross compiling toolkits for ppc/ppc64 ... some of the lesser arches have a few bugs (hppa/sh4 come to mind) but ppc works good -mike
