Yes, well, I'm a Pastor at a conservative church that think doctrine matters; so naturally everyone thinks I'm a heretic. It's nice to pass the buck once in a while ;-) I don't know suse from a hole in the wall, so beyond editing /etc/lilo.conf by hand and running lilo as root I can't help you. But it seems to me that yast should have something in it's workings to edit the boot config. Let me just say that I would be utterly shocked if it didn't. Other than that, since you're a newbie, you may want to backup lilo.conf via: mv lilo.conf lilo.backup and then read the man page on lilo.conf: man lilo.conf to edit your boot configuration by hand. Just remember if you go this way you'll have to run "lilo" to get the updated configuration installed. Also, if you're going to install win98, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BOOT DISK. Win98 will OVER-WRITE your mbr and lilo will be GONE. What you'l have to do is after win98 is installed boot from your boot disk and run "lilo" as root in the shell. That'll reinstall lilo on the master boot record. Anything I'm missing gang? Wes On Thursday 24 October 2002 12:17 pm, Michael Long wrote:
It is not easy being a heretic scum but someone has to do it... :)
I am using SuSE 7.3 and would like to install windblows 98. I don't have 2000 and NT does not support usb.

Mike, DIE, DIE, HERETIC SCUM!
OK, now that I've got that out of my system ;-) what distro are you
using? I
know that Mandrake has a lilo conf tool that will basically do it for you.

I have a request that is sacrilege to the charter of WLUG. However it is driven by the practicality of working in todays IT market place.
I have run linux exclusively on my personal computers for quite awhile. My situation has changed and now need to make one of my computers a dual boot with windows. The only way I know how to do this is to install windows first and then linux. This would mean having to restore my current installation from backups which I have not done before. My preference would be to add windows leaving my linux installation alone. I am still a newbie to linux and do not understand lilo and the boot process. Would this be something that someone would be willing to help walk me through?
Thanks, Mike
