Does the /bin/mail on the system where you ran the "gpg" command do the right thing with email sent from there? If it isn't configured correctly for remote mail delivery (e.g. smart relay host in /etc/mail/sendmail.cf) then you might try copy/paste of the command's output to your regular email client program.
