I have never used Gentoo, and I do not know of any config tools they include that my help you; so my comments are distro independent (they are really all the same in the end - maybe the start of a good flame war!). First thing is to run 'XFree86 -configure' assuming you are running version 4.x.x If this does not work, you will have to manually configure. Start by running 'lspci -vvv' to scan the PCI bus and see what type of card you have etc. Then see if there any good docs (ther are) at http://www.xfree86.org/ You should also go to the following site where there will be links to what others did to get Linux on a particular laptop http://www.linux-in-laptops.net/ibm.html You can also try IBM http://www-1.ibm.com/linux/ or http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/linux/ This should get you started where you can likely get X up and running. Any specific questions, just post to the list. I use a T23 and X runs fine 1024x768 on the LCD panel or 1600x1200 on my Viewsonic flat panel both at 24 bit. So you should have no problem getting the A30 to work. Good Luck! TG
