Hi Wes, It sounds like it may be time for a few more folks to jump in. Can you tell us a little more about your system? What distro are you running? What version of the kernel and X? If you run xfontsel, can you see your font families in the family pulldown? It may be perfectly normal for your fonts.dir file to contain a 0. Mine does! However, this was the command used to generate it: /usr/X11R6/bin/mkfontdir -e /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/encodings \ -e /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/encodings/large . &>/dev/null I think the real information about the fonts are stored in the encodings directory.
