Mike,

You might want to start by installing the package "net-tools" and "wireless-tools"; these two packages will get you the "ifconfig" command as well as the "iwconfig" command. so you can see what the network is doing.

I'm old school and while I've learned to use the "ip" commands, my hands naturally want to type "ifconfig -a".
