[Wlug] Soundcard gone bad?

Hi, I have a soundblaster pro sound card that has been working well for several years. Tonight with I started xmms to listen to some music I get a very distorted sound at a very low volume. To test whether the speakers my be the problem I unplugged the external speakers and plugged in a set of headphones directly into the card and get no sound out of the headphones. The last time I listened to music everything was working well. The machine has not been rebooted since the last time I used the sound system. Is there anything else I can do to determine if the soundcard has failed or if the problem lies elsewhere. Thanks, Mike
