Oh sorry, I mixed up xrdp and xfreerdp. I meant to say that I've had good experiences with xfreerdp at work. I think what confused me was that the syntax in FreeRDP 2.x differs from FreeRDP 1.0.x which we use in CentOS 7.

xrdp is just an RDP server implementation that advertises good compatibility with FreeRDP (in fact is based on it).

Is xfreerdp different than xrdp, or are those the same thing?  xfreerdp is what I used all day today, and it was pretty good, aside from the slow VPN I'm working through.  Sound wasn't working, but I don't need that for work and I didn't try to get it to work.  A GUI wouldn't be terrible.  I'll check out Gnome Connections.

I've had very good luck with xrdp, as it's easily one of the most mature, feature-complete RDP clients. It doesn't come with a GUI, but this can be a positive if you're looking for a streamlined client that launches from the command line minus the extra clutter.

Gnome Connections is a newer remote desktop client that might also be worth looking into as it's supposed to natively support multi-monitor:

I worked in Remmina all day.  It doesn't support multiple monitors, which can be painful.  It also doesn't trap all keypresses for the remote session, so I had to get used to using only the left CTRL key, for instance.

I just tried this solution, and it worked for dual monitors.  I just logged in and logged out, though, so I can't really comment on if it's a better solution.  It looks promising, though.

That worked!  I'm not sure the problem is the color depth, per se, but rather the codec (or whatever it's called in this context).  I changed it to 24 bpp, but there were several 32 bpp options that I didn't try:

Don't ask me why, but I've found lowering the color depth can help with remmina failing to connect.

Subject: [EXT] [WLUG] RDP into Win10 with Remmina

I'm getting tired of booting into Windows for work.  I figured out how to connect to the VPN from Debian, but it would be very helpful to RDP into the workstation in my office.

I know the URL for my workstation, the domain, the username, and the password, but I'm failing to get it to work.  What should I try?

Remmina says "Connecting to <server>..." for a minute, then fails with "Connection to RDP server <server> failed."
