[Wlug] x86 emulation/vmare clone

Is anyone familiar with any open-source versions of x86 emulation software that I can use instead of VMWare? It seems that the plex86 project has moved, and I can not find out much info on status of software - ie how usable etc.???? My goal is to run linux with win2k as a virtual machine for the few work related things I need.
