Sorry, I don't know what a Linux ditro is. Yes, I am looking for a reliable vendor that offers laptops with Linux pre-installed. Any advice on the desktop program, i.e. which is better? Lindows? Red Hat? Linspire? and all the others out there? At the moment, I'm using Open Office, Thunderbird and Firefox on an old 98SE Dell Inspiron 3500, still ticking after all these years but slow. Additionally, down the road I will be researching video capture and editing suites (open source or otherwise) suitable for a Linux environment, but for now I'll be happy with the basics--an office suite, email and browsing. My bottom line is migrating from dependency on proprietary operating systems, versatility and reliability.
Thanks! Marie mimsresearch@gmail.com
HI Marie, A "Linux distro" (short for distribution) is a collection of Linux software packaged up for ease of use. Such distributions include SuSE (Novell), RedHat, Debian, Ubuntu, and many, many others. These distributions are sometimes available in boxed sets, CDs, or download.
