Digital is definitely more finicky, you don't lose some visual acuity (noise or snow) on the edges of range, you just get nothing, I've had luck with bowtie antenna inside the attic even without signal amplification, with it I can get WJAR/WPRI, too. Little easier than a traditional yagi since it's not so directional. If you've got the space and dosh for a yagi and rotator you should be able to get all the locals easily. Unless you're in a weird null, which we definitely do have in the seven hills. -soup On Fri, Jun 23, 2023 at 7:46 PM John Stoffel via WLUG <wlug@lists.wlug.org> wrote:

Has anyone in the list had any experience using an external HDTV antenna in Worcester?
Personally no, but my neighbor here in Boylston uses it.
Reason I ask is that we ditched the full spectrum tv channel lineup and went with a the abbreviated channel lineup. However, we are missing the local broadcast tv stations and I was wondering it I could pick up some of them using an external antenna.
In this case, it depends how high up you are, how clear a view you have to the transmitters, and how well you orient the antenna. I hear that HD is more finiky than the old VHF/UHF stuff.
I searched the web for information but I do not have enough of a radio background to understand the meaning of the signal strength tables that I find.
A while ago I purchased an interior antenna and did not have any luck so I figure that I might try an external antenna.
Trying putting it as high up as possible in your house. On the roof if at all possible. _______________________________________________ WLUG mailing list -- wlug@lists.wlug.org To unsubscribe send an email to wlug-leave@lists.wlug.org Create Account: https://wlug.mailman3.com/accounts/signup/ Change Settings: https://wlug.mailman3.com/postorius/lists/wlug.lists.wlug.org/ Web Forum/Archive: https://wlug.mailman3.com/hyperkitty/list/wlug@lists.wlug.org/message/35B5HG...
