Well, when i run xf86config, and select the card it tells me that it is unsupported.  As for the X framebuffer, that sounds interesting, however I have no clue even how to start doing that.

It is my understanding that the S3 and S3V were supported as of XFree86
4.2.0.  I don't have any of those cards in use except in machines that are
console-only, so I haven't tried it.  If all else fails, you can always
use the framebuffer X server with 4.x.
