For example, my last employer used Exchange for scheduling, email, and something very much like newsgroups (i forget what it's called, and it being a function of Exchange means that i really couldn't care less what its name really is anyway)... they allowed POP3 mail, so i used Sylpheed with that (Sylpheed, BTW, is also capable of IMAP. if you're interested, you can find it on Freshmeat.)
