Definetly Gentoo, that's the easiest one to learn on... =) but hey, if you can get it installed and running smoothly then you can really do anything linux related. as far as a good entry linux, maybe mandrake or to teach people about command line and not frighten them away try slax. it boots right into command line, and then can get to a GUI in 5 seconds.
