Thank you to the people who replied with questions or suggestions. Here is some additional info: The keyboard backlighting is what flashes briefly at start up attempt. The screen shows no light what so ever. Does it have windows on it? Can you put a USB thumb drive on the system and try to boot from that (knoppix is really good for this, or one of the system rescue linux images).
